Election Turning Points

Over at the NY Times I write about the selection of Hillary’s campaign theme song.

My choice is below.  Beneath that is the song the campaign selected.

Ah yes, I fondly recall Bill Clinton remarking that his money was on Smash Mouth (that was almost as satisfying as the Supreme Court decision on file sharing in which Modest Mouse was name dropped). In any case, I prefer your choice of “Suddenly I See.” I would consider Sly’s “Everyday People” or Bowie’s “Heroes,” but perhaps those are too generic.

I did listen to “Signed, Sealed, Delivered” on the way to the polling booth this morning. It’s a great one, but “Don’t Stop Thinking About Tomorrow” is indeed the best of all time.

I will continue to push for a “rogue, straight-talking” candidate to run in 2012, just so they can use Leonard Cohen’s “Everybody Knows.” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KhjQH1FSDm0)

    A couple of lessons here:

    1. Celine Dion is an animatronic creation escaped from the evil lab of a twisted Walt Disney Imagineer hopped up on mescaline and Pop Tarts.

    2. Never let someone else choose your symbols.

Knowing what I know of you since you launched Gotham Acme, I realize you must’ve died inside when the Celine song was chosen.

I remember “Suddenly I See” closing up a few rallies. I thought it was a very upbeat and positive song that had a lot of crossover appeal.
