Glasvegas in Church

The good people at Sony were kind enough to invite me to see Glasvegas play a benefit for Mencap, this weekend at the very beautiful Union Chapel in London.

The band played for roughly 28 minutes, with James Allan seated for the entire performance.  Songs like “Flowers and Football Tops” and “Geraldine” gained renewed poignancy slowed down and played semi-acoustically — their cover of “Be My Baby” sounded like a prayer.  And “Ice Cream Van,” with James on keys that sounded like an organ, sounded like a hymn.

Here’s looking forward to the Christmas album and the upcoming tour of the states.

So you hooked me. I finally pulled Glasvegas off iTunes last week and have been listening to it literally non-stop ever since. It’s a superb album, I keep finding new influences (Pixies I’m thinking this morning). Can’t wait for the Christmas album.

Thanks too for calling out Dear Science, my favorite album of the year until this one came out (a close second due to a few sings that miss the mark). Last Shadow Puppets is high on the list too but a little gimmicky.
